CREATING YOUR OWN MULTI-PERFORMER ACT
Riddle me this Batman:
If a performer gets say $300.00 for a half hour show, how much will 5 performers get for a half hour show each?
The answer: $5,000.00
How do I get that? Well 5 x $300.00 = $5,000.00, right?
Yes, this answer is correct. It is not a question of math, but a question of entertainment value. A Multi-performer show always pays more than several single performer shows will. The reason? because Duos, Trio's, and Multi-performers always get more money than single performers - because they are always in demand. Broadway shows usually require musicians, singers, magicians, soloists, jugglers, and a whole slue of performers to entertain the people. Thats why ticket sales for these type of shows cost anywhere from $75.00 to $250.00 per seat! To demand that kind of money, promoters need to have Multi-performers in their acts. They are willing to pay entertainers more for this type of show.
Does that get you thinking? well it should. Figure this:
You can go out and personally hire
- 2 Magicians,
- 1 Juggler,
- 1 Mentalist, and
- 1 Comedian / Master of Ceremonies
You can now pitch this show to a owner of a dinner theater, or small 250 seat theater and the owner will easily pay you about $5,000.00.
Why would he pay that much?
Heres why:
The owner will charge customers 250 seats x $50 = $12,500.00.
$12,500.00 - $5,000.00 = $7,500.00 profit for the owner. The owner also makes profit on the sale of drinks, food, programs, parking, and other souvenirs, which may include an additional $7,000.00 profit. Will they re-book an act that made them a profit of over $14,000.00 in one night? Sure they will.
You, the promoter, will pay the entertainers:
$450.00 (way above market value) each x 5 performers = $2,250.00
The performers will be very happy as they are getting $450.00 for a $300.00 performance, way above market value for that type of individual act, and you can provide them will a steady flow of work constantly, while adding experience and promotion to their own Personal Promo Kits.
You will make a profit of $5,000.00 - $2,250.00 = $2,750.00, and if you are also one of the performers, add $450.00 for your fee and you walk away with:
$2,750.00 + $450.00 = $3,300.00 !, PER PERFORMANCE!!!
Performances like this could be done 2 times per day on weekends, and could even be run as a late night show when the theater is not being used anyway.
There is plenty of room to split up this $3,3.000 profit with a Booking Agent if you dont want to bother getting the rooms or the performers yourself. This is in fact, how many promoters work today - hiring sub contracts.
I know of at least one smart promoter that put a small ad in the paper looking for 5 talented female singers to perform and act and tour the world. He called this group The Spice Girls and made 100s of millions dollars! Then, he repeated the same ad, looking for 5 talented male singers, and founded the group called The Back Street Boys - and made 100s of millions of dollars again!!!
An alternative to this method, is that all the performers can put in a joint effort in the promotion of the act, in which case each performer would receive $5,000.00, divided by 5 performers = $1000.00 each.
The performers would now be paid $1,000.00 each to provide a $300 show! Not bad!!!
Many touring Acts such as Reveen, and The La Grande David did this for years. Once you get an established show, booking agents and theater owners will be knocking your door down!
