Nick explains the ONLY 2 reasons why ANY entertainer is being hired:
1) The first reason is strictly for the entertainment purpose (such as to make a birthday party a special remembrance, or a wedding, or a private party)
2) The second reason, is to use your entertainment skills, to make an organization a profit (such as hiring say the rolling stones to perform at a concert and selling tickets, beer, tea-shirts, and television rights, or hiring a magician in a casino to draw in potential slot machine customers.
There is no other reason!
The days of performing, just for the art of performing, are almost gone! Everything now-a-days, is for commerce.
Knowing that, heres an interesting Fact:
Very Few Entertainers Are Booked For The Actual Entertainment Purpose Alone!
In fact, the big paying shows ONLY hire you, the performer, to make a profit off of your performance!
Usually they are looking only for beer salesman, or a product selling entertainer, and you are being hired for that purpose, and usually for that purpose only! This depends on the environment that you are booked to work...
Every time they hire the Rolling Stones to perform a concert, ALL the people involved: the agents, ticket wickets, stage rental companies, lighting, roadies, television, parking lot attendants, even the cleaning staff and the popcorn man - ALL Make A Big Profit! The MORE PROFIT an act can make them, the MORE they want THAT act, the MORE they are willing to pay to get THAT act - Again, Simple Psychology!
So, they can afford to pay YOU, the Entertainer, MORE for this type of act - because the more they book YOU, the More Money They Make. As silly as this may sound:
The is the type of act you should be looking to be booked in to -The acts that make PROFIT for others!
So, knowing these facts, you should now come to realize, that the shows we like to book, are the ones that produce a profit for others. Lets give you now a couple of the many rules you must follow in order to get booked in to the better paying shows.
As you build up your career, over time you will have accumulated many experiences. You will keep records of progress in your 'Agenda' workbook, and will also accumulate many items for your Personal Promo Kit. Once you have established yourself as a solid performer, you can now slowly move into the bigger paying shows. The entertainment industry is a the largest and most lucrative business of any other business, other than Governments. There is no reason why you cannot get a piece of it.
You need to in-vision yourself as always greater than you currently are. This will prevent you from staying in the trap that 'all you can do, is all what you are currently doing'. There are numerous home study courses around that you can pick up cheap for a couple of hundred dollars that can dramatically change turn your career and income around (see: www.MagiciansMakingMoney.com).
Remember the definition of Silliness: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results!
Magicians usually have a lot of down time between bookings, sometimes even for days. Why not take this time and be more than any other Magician and learn different skills that will select you over the other guy.
You must have a little something different to offer that the other guy.
Have a naturally appealing act.
